Crunchy Tech partnered with the 157th Air Refueling Wing to bring a powerful new public-address system to Aircraft Hangar 254 at Pease Air National Guard Base. The goal was deceptively simple—loud, clear and reliable sound in every corner of the hangar. Our design and installation team successfully built a system that phenomenally handles crisp paging, safety calls and ceremony speeches. Importantly, the system satisfies FAA standards and keeps up with the no-nonsense demands of daily aircraft maintenance.

The 157th Air Refueling Wing made their objective crystal-clear from day one. They needed a public-address system with superb speech intelligibility across the entire hangar. It must be able to handle routine maintenance briefings, emergency safety calls and formal military ceremonies with the same clarity and reliability.

Flexibility was just as important, if not more. Base leadership wanted control over all three audio zones. Either addressing them at once or targeting specific areas without affecting others. They also wanted wireless microphones that could hold multiple events simultaneously. That meant no signal dropouts whether it was a change-of-command ceremony or a guided visitor tour.

Working side by side with the client to strike the right balance. The system had to deliver top-tier technical performance while staying simple to operate. It also had to meet every regulatory requirement there is. With Crunchy Tech’s collaborative approach, the result is a long-term asset that supports both their daily operations and mission readiness.

Crunchy Tech’s design-build approach was instrumental in completing a compliant, high-performance system in an active military hangar. We started with detailed acoustic modeling to lock in the best speaker placement and zone configuration. The desired result was even coverage without creating disruptive echoes.

Installation was rendered with the utmost care. Work schedules were planned to avoid interrupting maintenance or impeding flight-line activity. FAA-compliant rigging and cabling were installed to perfection. All equipment was suspended clear of aircraft movement paths while keeping sightlines clean.

Close coordination with base personnel happened at every step from concept to commissioning. The client couldn’t be happier that the system measured up to every operational goal and passed inspection on the first review. It now provides simple, intuitive controls for daily utilization.

The upgraded PA system has markedly refined the way Hangar 254 communicates. Quotidian operations and special events now run with clear, reliable sound. Speech intelligibility reaches from one end of the hangar to the other. Safety instructions, operational updates and ceremonial addresses are heard and understood in every zone.

Reverberation and echo, once major obstacles, have become under control. Precise tuning and zone-specific EQ have produced a balanced acoustic environment notwithstanding a space dominated by reflective metal surfaces. Wireless mics give teams the freedom to run multiple events concurrently without interference. Preset configurations let staff reconfigure the system in mere seconds for maintenance, drills or formal ceremonies with zero manual re-patching.

Fundamentally, our client walked away with nothing short of a dependable, aviation-compliant audio solution. One that underpins the base’s mission while making day-to-day communication faster, safer and more efficient.
