Restaurant AV Systems

Food quality times service quality times atmosphere. That's the experience equation. Most restaurants obsess over the first two and overlook the third. We fix the third.

MakeRoom for Good Restaurant AV System

The music in the bar is bleeding into the dining area. The patio speakers sound like they’re underwater. The host is shouting over both. These scenarios at a restaurant aren't really an equipment problem as much as they're a design problem. And 85% of commercial AV installations get it wrong because nobody started with the space itself.

In 18 years of designing restaurant audiovisual systems, we’ve come to understand a simple design principle: the technology should disappear. Guests shouldn’t notice the sound system and should just feel like the ambiance is utter perfection.

We design AV systems for restaurants around how you operate your space on the daily - every speaker, screen and control has a place, and the technology stays out of the guest experience.

Hospitality Insights

The numbers behind a better hospitality space.

Hospitality Premium

“What is great service worth?”

16 %

MORE FOR A BETTER EXPERIENCE

Consumers will pay up to 16% more for products and services delivered with a great customer experience, and 73% say experience is a top driver of their loyalty. In a restaurant, that experience is the room — the sound, the screens, and the ambiance your AV creates.

Hospitality Retention

“What does one bad night cost?”

32 %

LEAVE AFTER ONE BAD EXPERIENCE

Nearly one in three consumers (32%) say they would walk away from a brand they love after a single bad experience. One night of dead screens or failed audio can cost a loyal guest for good.

Ready When You Are

Two paths. Same AVdiscipline.

New build or already serving guests, the work starts with a game plan that's built around your space, ROI goals and the experience you want every table to have.

PATH 01 New Venue

You only get one grand opening.

AV at the table from day one. Drawn in alongside the walls, wiring and plumbing.

Show 5 commitments
  • AV designed from Day 1 Integrated into your architectural drawings alongside electrical, structural, and network before a single wall goes up.
  • Surfaces still flexible Screen placements, audio zones and lighting scenes get optimized for sightlines while walls are still studs.
  • One team, one scope Exact device counts, labor hours, and conduit specs your GC can price on day one. No vague allowances.
  • Supply chain protection Long-lead equipment ordered months early so your opening date doesn't slip waiting on a panel.
  • Flawless launch Every system commissioned and staff trained before doors open. Opening night runs the show, not the restaurant AV install.
PATH 02 Upgrading Existing

Your venue can't keep running on patchwork.

We assess what you've got, keep what works and replace what's holding the space back.

Show 5 commitments
  • The pain is real The remote shuffle, the dead zones, the screen that drops mid-game, the audio that makes guests leave early, etc.
  • Keep what works We audit your existing gear before deciding what changes. Nothing performing gets ripped out for the sake of it.
  • Zero downtime Every phase mapped around your calendar. No lost revenue days. Your resto stays open and earning through the upgrade.
  • Unified control Legacy and new equipment under one interface. Presets replace the remote graveyard behind the bar.
  • Staff retrained in minutes Simplified operation requiring no IT diploma. Anyone on shift can run the space on night one.

Distribution & Matrix

Restaurant Video Distribution and MatrixSwitching

The $80,000 Service Call

True story: one of our clients spent $80K on an AV system and endured six months of “the system keeps going down.” The original integrator replaced the DSP, the control processor and two displays. We found the actual problem in under an hour: a flat network shared with POS, guest WiFi and security cameras. Three IP address conflicts. The gear was never broken.

That’s why we design restaurant AV control systems on dedicated networks with VLANs, managed switches and QoS prioritization. Your AV over IP and video matrix switching put you in complete control: same content everywhere, different feeds per zone or a live event override in seconds.

VideoWalls, Digital Displays & Projection

Restaurant Digital Displays

Restaurant displays operate 14 to 18 hours a day, every day of the week.

That operating schedule is one reason commercial displays remain the preferred choice for hospitality environments. Commercial-grade panels are designed for extended daily use and typically deliver a considerably longer service life than consumer televisions used in the same conditions.

We specify displays based on the environment they serve. A sports bar may require larger, brighter displays optimized for viewing from a distance, while a private dining area may benefit from a more discreet presentation solution that complements the design of the space.

Restaurant Video Walls

Video walls create a focal point that can define an entire space. They are commonly used in sports bars, entertainment venues, large dining spaces and hospitality environments where a single display would struggle to create the same visual impact. Content can be managed centrally and adapted throughout the day to support live events, promotions, entertainment or branded experiences.

Because LED systems evolve over time, we also consider long-term serviceability and future maintenance when specifying video wall solutions.

Complete Outdoor AV Systems

Restaurant OutdoorDigitalDisplays

Outdoor AV Requires Different Equipment

Patios, rooftop bars, beer gardens and outdoor dining areas place unique demands on technology. Displays must remain visible in daylight and speakers need protection from weather and moisture. Equipment enclosures also must withstand temperature swings, cleaning procedures and exposure to the elements.

Depending on the environment, that may include IP65- or IP66-rated equipment, high-brightness displays, weather-resistant loudspeakers and dedicated thermal management strategies.

DigitalSignage

Digital Signage That Stays Relevant

The value of digital signage comes from its ability to change. Menus, promotions, events, seasonal offerings and limited-time specials can be updated throughout the day without replacing printed materials. Content can be managed remotely, scheduled in advance and distributed across multiple displays from a single platform.

The most effective restaurant signage systems become part of daily operations rather than static screens that rarely change.

Commercial Sound Systems

AudioDistribution & Sound Systems

Audio Shapes the Dining Experience

Music that is too loud makes conversation difficult. Uneven coverage creates areas that feel disconnected from the rest of the restaurant. A poorly balanced system can make a space feel chaotic even when everything else is working.

Research published in Scientific Reports found that slower-tempo music increased average dwell time from 57 minutes to 80 minutes. That's a meaningful difference in environments where guest experience and length of stay directly influence revenue.

Multi-Zone Audio for Restaurants

Different areas of a restaurant rarely need the same audio profile.

The atmosphere in the dining area may differ from the bar. A private event space may require complete independence from the rest of the venue. Outdoor seating often benefits from separate control due to environmental noise and operating hours.

We design DSP-driven audio systems that allow each area to operate independently through its own source selection, volume control, equalization and scheduling.

Acoustic Treatment

Audio quality isn't determined by speakers alone. Open floor plans, hard surfaces, exposed ceilings and large glass walls can create reflections that make conversations harder to follow and music more difficult to control. Acoustic treatment helps manage those conditions and allows the sound system to perform as intended.

Even the best DSP platform cannot fully compensate for a space that was never designed to handle sound.

Microphone & PA Systems

Restaurants frequently host private events, presentations, live entertainment, trivia nights and community gatherings.

Wireless microphone systems provide flexibility without introducing temporary cabling or complicated setup procedures. When integrated into the existing sound system, staff can support events quickly while maintaining the same level of control used during normal operations.

Our experience includes large-scale deployments for brands such as Fleming's and Bloomin' Brands, where consistency, ease of operation and long-term reliability are just as important as sound quality.

How much does restaurant AV cost?

Restaurant AV projects can range from $25,000 to $250,000 or more, contingent on the size of the venue, the number of zones, display requirements, control systems, and whether the project includes spaces such as bars, patios, private dining spaces or live entertainment areas. At Crunchy Tech we present Good, Better, and Best options for operators to compare different levels of investment and functionality side by side. If you want to learn more, contact us and one of our seasoned AV experts shall explain what each option entails and suggest the best route based on your current setup and business goals.

Should restaurant AV be designed before construction starts?

Yes. AV planning is most effective when it happens during the design phase as opposed to after construction is underway. Display locations, speaker placement, power requirements, infrastructure pathways and control system strategy all affect the building itself. Addressing those decisions early helps avoid costly changes later. Studies found that rework can account for up to 20% of construction costs associated with project corrections and changes, making early coordination between AV designers, architects and contractors one of the most cost-effective decisions a restaurant owner can make.

Why use commercial-grade AV equipment instead of consumer products?

Restaurants place demands on technology that consumer products were never designed to handle. Displays, audio systems and control equipment often operate 14-18 hours a day seven days a week. Consumer-grade displays are conventionally designed for lighter use and may begin experiencing reliability issues after just a few years in a commercial environment. Commercial-grade equipment is built for extended operating schedules and commonly remains in service for 7 to 10 years when properly specified and maintained.

Can restaurant audio be controlled in different areas independently?

Absolutely. Modern restaurant audio systems use digital signal processing (DSP) to create independent zones throughout the property. The dining area, bar, patio, waiting area and private event spaces can each have their own volume levels, music sources and operating schedules. Many restaurant AV systems also support daypart automation, which allows the atmosphere to shift naturally throughout the day without requiring staff intervention. In open floor plans, acoustic treatment is recommended alongside zoning to help control sound bleed and maintain a comfortable experience for guests.

Do you handle music licensing for restaurants?

We design and install the technology that delivers music throughout the venue, but music licensing is handled separately through organizations such as BMI, ASCAP and SESAC. These licenses give businesses the legal right to play copyrighted music in commercial environments. While we do not provide licensing services, we can design audio systems with independent zones and source controls that make compliance easier to manage across different areas of the restaurant.

Can the restaurant host private events and live music while remaining open?

Yes. A properly designed AV system for restaurants allows different parts of the venue to operate in an independent manner. For instance, a private dining area can have its own audio feed, wireless microphones and presentation capabilities. Meanwhile, the main dining space continues normal service with separate music and volume levels. The same approach applies to live music performances, special events and private functions. Through audio zoning, DSP processing and thoughtful system design, restaurants can accommodate multiple experiences at the same time without one disrupting the other.
