Digital Menu Boards

Digital Menu Boards

Menu boards that sell

Change a price once and every board in every location updates. Daypart menus flip themselves on schedule. Designed, installed and supported by one accountable team.

Digital Signage Services

Your menu changes faster than printcankeepup

Every printed menu is a bet that nothing changes for a print cycle. Supplier prices move, items sell out mid-shift, the breakfast crowd leaves and the lunch crowd arrives. The board above the counter stays frozen. Operators end up taping paper over prices, which reads exactly how it sounds to a guest deciding what your food is worth.

A digital menu board replaces that frozen board with a commercial display driven by cloud menu board software. Price changes take seconds and sync across every location. An 86'd item disappears from the board the moment the kitchen calls it. At 11am the breakfast menu becomes the lunch menu on its own.

In our 18 years and 3,000+ installations we've deployed menu and content systems across restaurant groups as large as 25 locations.

Industries We Serve

Where menu boards movetheticket

Anywhere a guest reads a board and makes a buying decision in the walk to the counter.

Designed to be read

A menu board is read in eightseconds

Guests decide while walking toward the counter. The board has to win that walk - readable from the back of the queue, scannable under pressure.

Picture this: it's 12:15pm, six people deep at the counter, and the guest at the front is still squinting at the board trying to find the combos. Every second of that squint is a second the line isn't moving. One client came to us convinced they needed a faster POS — what they needed was a board guests could read from the back of the queue.

Most menu board failures are design failures, and they happen before any hardware is hung. Boards mounted too high force guests to crane their necks. Type sized for a designer's monitor disappears at fifteen feet. Glossy panels under downlights throw glare exactly where the prices sit.

We model each board the way we model a video wall: viewing distance from the back of the queue, mounting height against sightlines, ambient light against panel brightness, portrait or landscape orientation against the menu structure. For restaurants, that discipline shows up in throughput — a guest who has decided by the time they reach the counter orders faster, and the line behind them moves.

Then we lay out the content for how people actually read: the "golden triangle" scan pattern that pulls eyes to the upper center first, high-margin items and combo upsells in those anchor positions, photography only where it earns the space. POPAI research found digital signage lifts purchase likelihood on featured items by 8.1% — the menu board is where that lift turns into ticket size and order accuracy. AVIXA's design research backs the broader principle: proper AV design standards reduce total ownership cost by 15%.

Pro tip: before you spend anything, stand at the back of your own queue during a rush and try to order from the current board. If you hesitate, your guests are hesitating — and that test costs nothing.

Platform

Plays well with youroperation

Menu boards are one piece of the room. Ours run on the same platform as everything else on your walls.

One platform, everything on the walls. The menu board software we configure runs on the same cloud platform and control fabric as your promotional signage, audio zones, and displays. Your team manages all of it from one login. It works with the major commercial display lines and, in many cases, with screens you already own.

Corporate templates, location-level control. Role-based permissions let corporate approve templates and brand standards while each location manages its own items, daypart specials, and 86'd items. Real-time proof-of-play confirms every board in every market is showing the current menu — confirmation, not assumption.

Documentation that survives turnover. Every installation follows AVIXA and InfoComm-derived standards for mounting, cabling, and commissioning — the same documentation discipline that lets us support a system in year five without guessing what's behind the wall.

How do you design digital menu boards that read from the line and drive orders?

The board has to be readable from the order line and persuasive enough to lift the average ticket. Both come down to design discipline and not screen size. We design every board around four engineering principles:

  • Read distance drives screen sizing. We measure the actual order line - distance from queue to board, eye height for standing customers, sightline angles - and spec text size and screen size so the menu reads in under three seconds from anywhere in line.
  • Brightness fights counter lighting. Restaurant counter lighting is bright. Most consumer TVs and even some commercial panels can't beat it. We measure ambient light and spec panel nits against the actual install position.
  • Content hierarchy converts. Featured items get visual weight; price gets controlled emphasis (legible but not the headline); high-margin combos get their own zone. POPAI research puts the purchase lift on featured items at 8.1% — that's the ceiling, but only if content is built right.
  • Commercial duty-cycle is non-negotiable. Consumer TVs rated for 8–12 hours of daily use fail in 1–3 years of commercial duty, often with a voided warranty. Commercial panels rated for 16–24 hours last 7–10 years (industry research on commercial-grade displays).

We design the screen, the content layout and the dayparting schedule as one system.

Can the boards integrate with our POS, and how long does install take?

Often, yes on POS. Depending on your platform, item and price data can feed the boards so changes happen once instead of twice. Where direct integration isn't available, the cloud dashboard makes manual updates a seconds-long task from any browser. We map this during design. A single-location install is typically a short engagement once displays arrive - commercial mounts, concealed cabling, network configuration, software setup, and staff training. Multi-location rollouts run on a per-site playbook so every market comes online identically, and we confirm equipment lead times up front so the schedule is real, not aspirational.

How much does a digital menu board system cost?

Pricing varies by the number of boards, the display grade, the software tier and whether you're synchronizing across locations. A single-location indoor setup and a synchronized multi-location network with outdoor and walk-up boards live in different orders of magnitude. At Crunchy Tech every proposal is presented in Good/Better/Best tiers, giving you clear options based on your AV goals and budget. Compare the cost of a solid foundational system against advanced features like dayparting automation and multi-location synchronization (without decoy pricing).

Who updates the menus after launch: us or you?

Your team. That's the point. We configure the platform, build your templates and train your staff until updating a price feels routine. You're never calling an AV integrator to change a lunch special. We stay accountable for the system itself - hardware, software and ongoing support. But the day-to-day content lives with the people who run the operation, exactly where it should.
