Immersive Memorial Experiences Through Audio Visual Design
Foundation Partners’ GreenLawn Funeral Homes sought to redefine the memorial experience by creating a more personal and interactive environment for families and loved ones. The vision was to move beyond traditional funeral home settings and provide guests with a large-scale immersive experience that would allow them to feel connected to the life of the recently deceased.
Crunchy Tech was brought in to design and build a large-scale audiovisual environment that projects 4K footage of the loved one’s favorite places onto giant projector screens surrounding the casket podium. Complementing the visual experience, a full surround sound audio system was implemented, including microphones, speakers, and an automated control system — transforming the memorial space into a truly immersive celebration of life.
Project Challenges
Bringing Immersive AV to a Sensitive Environment
The project presented a unique set of challenges that went beyond typical AV installations. The memorial chapel required a multi-projector, panoramic visual system capable of surrounding the casket podium with seamless 4K imagery — all within an architectural space not originally designed for large-scale projection. Achieving uniform image quality, proper throw distances, and ambient light management required careful planning and custom solutions.
The audio system needed to deliver enveloping surround sound while remaining sensitive to the nature of the environment. Clear speech reinforcement for eulogies and ceremonies had to coexist with ambient audio that complemented the projected visuals. Additionally, the entire system needed to be simple enough for funeral home staff to operate daily without specialized AV training, demanding an intuitive automated control platform.
