TOHO Water Broadcast Center with Remote Capability

Challenge:

The TOHO Water authority engaged Crunchy to design, install, program and commission a high-end video conferencing solution in a publicly used facility.

The facility was in need of an upgrade for their AV technology, with a need for more robust hosting capabilities for civic meetings, presentations, and other activities and events.

The AV makeover was important to enhance the capabilities of those making presentations, as well as for those in attendance or viewing from home via live stream or public access TV.

Solutions:

The core of the system was a Cisco Codec Pro coupled with many peripherals to allow for a seamless, user-friendly experience. 4 large format 75” monitors were installed as focal points around the space.

The Codec Pro has a limitation of 3 HDMI outputs, so Crestron Digital Media distribution amplifiers were introduced to allow content, including presentation content, far end video, and in room video to be seen across all 4 monitors.

Crestron HDMI/VGA wall plates were also installed in strategic points of the room so that the operators could display content for presentation via laptops or similar devices. In addition to the HDM/VGA wall plates, USB wall plates were installed to allow a special Cisco feature to sync the laptop to the Cisco codec.

Audio reinforcement was handled through a Crestron multi zone amplifier. Multiple channels of wireless mics were fed through a Shure Micro flex system which allowed all board members to be heard not only at the far end of the call but also included speaker track within the room itself.

A QSC Q-SYS Core 110f handles all audio routing for both the analog and Dante signal paths. A Crestron 4 series processor tied the system together while utilizing the Cisco Touch 10 as the centralized GUI to make everything seamless and to work the first time.

A Cisco Telepresence Speaker Track system was installed to keep the camera on the people speaking automatically.

Crestron Digital Media distribution amplifiers were used due to the Cisco codec having a limitation of 3 HDMI outputs.

Crestron HDMI/VGA wall plates: used so people could use their own device.

Crestron in-ceiling speakers: 8 were used with this build including a Crestron multi-zone amplifier.

Shure Micro Flex System: 12 channels of wireless mics were fed through this which allowed all board members to be heard not only at the far end of the call, but also included voice-lift within the room itself.

The Impact:

TOHO ended up with a fully functional broadcast center that can be operated by people with minimal AV or video production knowledge. They were also ecstatic with the automation features that stream the content of the connected devices to the audience’s screens. This enables presenters to focus on their presentation with the confidence that their AV system is working as intended.
