We analyze the room first, measure viewing distances, model lighting at peak hours, then recommend a pixel pitch, a panel type, a controller and a content plan. We're not a reseller and we don't rent walls. 85% of commercial AV is a waste of money. Not because the gear is bad, but because the approach starts in the wrong place.

The video wall screen makes that math worse.

It's the most expensive part of the build and the part the entire venue notices. The 85% looks like a panel order placed before sightlines are mapped, pixel pitch picked by a salesperson instead of by viewing distance, LED panels sourced from three different production batches, no spare modules stored, panels mounted to drywall instead of structural framing, and a video wall content strategy bolted on after install.

One sports bar ordered a six-panel LED wall before anyone walked the room. The wall landed beautifully on the back wall. But the bar-top seats, the booths and the standing overflow could see exactly four panels of it. The owners spent six figures to hide a third of a football game behind a structural column. We rebuilt the wall the right way the following off-season.

The 15% looks different.

LED & LCD Video Walls

LED video walls. The brightest, most flexible, most durable option. Scales to virtually any size and shape, works indoors and outdoors. They also handle ambient light better than any other technology. The right answer for hospitality flagships, lobby installations, outdoor video wall displays and any environment with significant ambient light. LCD video walls. High pixel density, cost-effective, ultra-thin bezels. Indoor only, in fixed 55-inch and 65-inch panels and practical up to about a 10-by-10 grid before LED becomes the better call. The right answer for control rooms, healthcare imaging, design studios and indoor environments with controlled lighting, where detail matters more than brightness and the budget rewards a tighter envelope.

With our AV consultation you will find out that sometimes the right answer isn't a video wall at all. If your experience lives at 14 bar seats while 180 seats sit elsewhere, a six-figure LED wall behind the bar is money in the wrong place. A 2x2 wall flanked by a few well-placed TVs, a ribbon of screens, or a single 98-inch display driven as four 49-inch panes can give you the same big-canvas feel for a fraction of the spend. We put the best technology where you're driving the most experience (and we'll tell you when that means a smaller wall, or none).

Methodology

How we design and install a videowall

Five phases, every Crunchy Tech video wall. Same engineering discipline whether it's six panels or sixty.

First Phases

Phase 1: Buy Clarity. We walk the room, map sightlines from every seat, document ambient light at peak hours, and produce a visualization of the proposed wall in your venue. You see what the room becomes before you spend a dollar on equipment.

Phase 2: Buy Certainty. The full engineering package: pixel pitch math, panel specification, controller spec, structural mounting drawings, a network requirements document, a content management plan, and a phased proposal with clear options.

Installation, Training & Support

Phase 3: Integration. Structural backer installation, mounting framework, panel install, cabling, power, initial signal test. Commercial mounts, concealed cabling, dedicated AV network segmentation.

Phase 4: Commissioning. Color calibration across panels, bezel alignment, source routing programming, content management setup, daypart automation, staff walkthrough, runbook delivery.

Phase 5: Support. Proactive remote monitoring, scheduled annual recalibration, firmware updates, batch-matched spare panel replacement. The install is the beginning of the relationship, not the end of it.

Hospitality

A sports bar does $3K on a Tuesday and $200K on Sunday, so the wall has to deliver every game to every seat with audio that follows where guests are looking. In experience-led venues, guests stay longer and spend more per visit, with sports venues seeing dwell times around 159 minutes (SX Leisure 2026).

Immersive retail and museum environments report meaningfully longer visits and higher sales when the visual experience is the draw (Influencers Time, 2025). The wall is the experience.

Durability

How long a commercial videowalllasts

We design video walls for the day you install them, the year your spare panels run out, and the year after that.

Pixel and color drift over time. LED panels from different production batches are visibly different colors within months, and the mismatch is permanent. We store batch-matched spares from the original production run, climate-controlled in our warehouse, labeled by project. Year-four replacement matches year-one install.

Bezel and mount drift. Drywall isn't a wall. It's a finish. Mounting hardware shifts over time, panels misalign, and seams open up. The video wall mounts to a structural backer engineered to panel weight plus flex tolerance, with seismic-rated brackets where the building code calls for them.

Heat damage. LED walls draw 300–500+ watts per panel. Heat is the #1 killer of LED lifespan. We engineer rear ventilation and ambient cooling into every install, with panels rated for the actual daily duty cycle the room runs.

Network-induced outages. Walls sharing a network with POS, guest Wi-Fi, or security become daily blackout sources. A dedicated AV VLAN, QoS prioritization, and static IP reservation isolate the AV layer so IT can change anything else without breaking it.

Content rot. A wall playing the same loop for 24 months becomes invisible to the people it was meant to impress. Daypart switching, brand-zone routing, and refreshable templates designed at commissioning keep the wall alive across years one through ten.

LED vs LCD vs OLED

LED offers seamless, bezel-free visuals with superior brightness (up to 6,000 nits) for high-ambient-light environments. LCD is more cost-effective with higher pixel density for indoor applications. OLED delivers true blacks and exceptional color accuracy for premium retail and art installations.

Pixel Pitch Strategy

Under 8ft viewing distance: 1.5mm or lower. 10ft+: 2.5-4mm provides excellent quality at a better price point. The right pixel pitch depends on your content type, viewing distance, and budget. We always do an on-site assessment.

Content Management

We set up BrightSign or similar CMS with training so your team can update content, schedule playlists, and manage zones independently. Modular designs enable easy expansion — add panels or integrate new technologies without replacing the whole system.

What is a video wall and how does it work?

A video wall is a set of LED, LCD, or Direct View panels mounted together and driven by a controller so they behave as one large display. The controller takes your sources (cable boxes, media players, computers, cameras, dashboards) and routes them to the wall as a single image or a multi-window layout you can change on the fly. What makes a commercial video wall different from a stack of TVs is the engineering behind it: pixel pitch matched to viewing distance, brightness matched to ambient light, a structural backer that holds alignment for years and a dedicated network so the wall never goes dark when IT changes something else.

How do you decide pixel pitch, size and technology for our space?

Three engineering decisions drive every video wall design. We back into all three by mapping the room first, every seat, every standing zone, every viewing distance, then recommend one engineered answer.

  • Pixel pitch (the distance in millimeters between adjacent LEDs) gets matched to closest viewing distance. 1.5mm for ~6-foot viewing (boardrooms, lobbies). 2.5–3.9mm for 10–15 feet (sports bars, hospitality). 4mm+ for stadium scale. Wrong pitch at the wrong distance means pixelation up close or wasted resolution from far away.
  • Total size is driven by sightlines, not square footage. The right size is the size every guest can see. Too-small walls disappear at peak crowd; too-big walls run past columns and partitions.
  • Panel technology. LED (bright, scalable, bezel-free, indoor and outdoor), LCD (higher pixel density, lower upfront cost, controlled lighting only), or Direct View LED (fine-pitch, bezel-free, for executive lobbies and broadcast). We pick the technology that matches the room's brightness profile, viewing geometry, and operating duty cycle.

How much does a commercial video wall cost?

Pricing varies significantly by panel type (LED vs LCD vs Direct View), pixel pitch (finer costs more), total surface area, viewing environment (indoor vs outdoor venue-owned), and content and control complexity. A small interior LCD wall and a large outdoor LED installation live in different orders of magnitude. We provide a three-tier (Good/Better/Best) proposal so you can see what each level of investment changes about the room outcome, then weigh that against the cost.

How long does a commercial video wall last, and can you install one outdoors?

Properly designed and maintained commercial video walls last 7–10 years in their original install. Consumer-grade displays used commercially fail in 2–3 years (industry research on commercial-grade displays). The difference is duty-cycle rating (commercial panels are designed for 16–24 hours of daily operation), thermal engineering and access to batch-matched replacement modules. And yes, we install outdoor video walls: patio displays, hotel pool decks, sports bar outdoor seating, stadium venue-owned scoreboards and experiential retail outdoor displays. We use weather-rated LED panels (IP65 minimum, IP66+ for direct weather exposure), high-brightness panels (5,000–8,000+ nits for direct sun) and engineered enclosures with thermal management. We handle permitting, structural engineering, weatherproof cabling and ongoing weather-cycle maintenance.

Do you sell video walls, or design and install them?

We're a design-build integrator. We design new video walls that route through your existing control platforms, content management system, source matrix and unified communications environment. That integration work is most of what we do. We bring a clear network requirements document and partner with your IT team to keep the wall and the rest of your AV ecosystem working together. Content management is built into scope. You're not simply buying a stack of video wall TVs from us. You're investing in an engineered video wall asset - owned by you, supported by us.
