The reason it has to be zoned is simple - a spin class at full energy shouldn't carry into the yoga room next door, and the instructor's voice has to cut through the music in a class without the music disappearing.
We design around how each space is used and how sound carries between them. That means the right speaker placement and direction for high-ceiling open floors, independent volume per zone at the DSP and instructor microphones that stay intelligible over the track.

The weight floor, the studios and the lobby are different rooms with different jobs. One feed can't serve all of them.
Each space in a gym wants its own sound. The open weight floor runs energetic background music sized to a big, high-ceilinged room. Group fitness and cycle studios need their own source and their own volume, often louder, with the instructor's mic mixed over the top.
The yoga or recovery room needs to stay calm even when the class next door is at peak. The lobby and front desk stay conversational. We set each as its own zone at the DSP with independent volume. One space never dictates the rest.
The hard part is containment. Studios share walls, and sound carries. We place and aim speakers to keep energy inside the room that needs it, and we size each zone's amplifier channel to its speaker load in order for the power to stay clean even when the cycle room is full and boisterously loud.
Instructor audio
In a class, the music can't bury the coach. Speech intelligibility is the whole point.
Group fitness lives or dies on the instructor being heard. And so we design the studio audio around speech intelligibility first: a wireless instructor mic mixed cleanly over the music, with the levels set so the coaching cuts through without the track dropping out. That's a feedback-and-clarity design problem - the same discipline we bring to corporate rooms where people are speaking, applied to a loud, energetic space.
We tune the mix on site, calibrated for class volume and not for an empty-room test. Members hear every cue over the music, and the instructor never has to strain to reach the back row.

Fitness spaces are acoustically brutal. The design has to account for it.
Open weight floors have high ceilings, hard surfaces and a lot of cubic feet to fill, which is exactly the environment where speakers thrown up without a plan bounce sound everywhere and turn to mush.
We run a coverage analysis for direction, mounting height and how the room reflects sound. We then choose and place speakers to deliver even, intelligible energy across the floor (as opposed to a loud spot under each speaker). Commercial-grade gear handles the all-day duty cycle a busy gym runs, where consumer parts show up later as constant failures and reboots.
