Just do it. Spend the money. It’s well worth it. It’s not worth your time, hassle, energy, and stress of trying to make it look right and do it right when there’s somebody who has been doing it for years and has perfected the craft.
Commercial Audio Visual Company in Houston
Design-build audiovisual for Houston offices, restaurants, hotels, venues, and big facilities. We design it, build the rack in our shop, install it, tune it, and stay for the support years.
Houston has no zoning, and the shared wall is where you hear it
Houston has no zoning ordinance, and that's why you end up sharing a wall with a business nothing like yours. A taqueria backs onto a machine shop. An office suite sits over a bar. The question here isn't how loud you can go. It's who's on the other side, because a system that's perfect for your room can wreck the room next door. Most of the noise complaints we get called about aren't volume problems - they're neighbor problems wearing a volume costume.
On a Houston project, the first thing we ask is what's behind your walls. That answer moves speakers and sets how hard the system's allowed to push before your sound becomes someone else's problem. From there it's the process we always run since 2008: figure out what the room needs to do, build and test it in our shop, install, tune, train your crew, and hand over documentation that actually matches the wall. Then we stay. Support isn't an afterthought here, it's why the phone still gets picked up years later.

Commercial AV Across Greater Houston
Downtown towers, Energy Corridor campuses, inner-loop dining rooms, and the master-planned cities past the beltways. We design, install, and support commercial audiovisual across all of it.
Outdoor gear needs real thermal headroom here, and the equipment room needs its own cooling holding 75 degrees or better. Borrowed building air doesn't count.
Anything mounted outside gets picked and anchored for wind load. An indoor product with a cover on it isn't an outdoor product.
Rack elevation, conduit routing, and where power enters the room all get decided against the flood history of the actual address.
Patios earn most of the year here, so outdoor audio and displays are permanent infrastructure on weather-rated hardware, never a seasonal add-on.
What we do here
Houston Audio Visual Design Across Four Building Types
Heat, water, and whoever's next door. Those three shape every Houston job we take, and the equipment list waits until they've had their say.
Offices, conference rooms, and training space
Energy and engineering companies here don't buy one boardroom. They buy sixty rooms across four floors and expect all sixty to work the same way, and that's the real job. One flaky room poisons trust in the other fifty-nine, and pretty soon every meeting opens with an apology and a cable hunt. We've watched money burn at the other end too: hardware picked from a brochure, engineered for four people at a small table, asked to cover a room where the far chair sits thirty feet from the microphone. It can't. Physics doesn't negotiate. So we start with the room itself. Measure it, sit in it, learn what actually happens in it and on which platforms, and write the equipment list last.
Restaurants, bars, and hotels
Zoning at the processor decides whether a Houston room works. Dining room, bar, patio, each tuned on its own channel, with levels set knowing who your neighbors are, since here they could be anyone. Displays are where the money leaks. A commercial panel carries a three-year commercial warranty and it's rated to run all day, every day. A consumer TV mounted in the same spot voids its warranty the day it goes up, and somewhere around year two it starts dying. Owners rarely believe the difference until they've paid for it once. We'd rather you didn't have to. Tell us the make and model of anything you want to keep and we'll say plainly whether we can control it or whether it's best-effort.
Venues with live performance
A house system that fights the band loses. Staff shut it off, and once it's off, it stays off. Separation is what actually works. The stage area lives on its own zone and drops out of the house mix during a set. The dining side keeps playing for people who came to eat rather than to listen. One preset puts the whole building back the way it was after load-out. That's our lane and we stay in it. We do not book talent, we do not mix live shows, and we do not do production camera work. Touring engineers get a tie-in point that's labeled and documented, then they get left alone, which in our experience is exactly how they want it.
Large facilities and multi-site operators
Scale rewrites the brief. A logistics hub or a medical campus needs to be heard more than it needs a soundtrack, and paging is its own craft. An announcement has to survive concrete, distance, and forklift noise, and still make sense to someone who can't see the exit they're being sent toward. Multi-site operators bring a different problem: sameness. Interface, presets, and training identical at every address, so a manager who transfers doesn't start over, while the rooms themselves differ because the buildings do. One more Houston truth. This metro is enormous and drive time is a support cost, so we design for remote diagnosis first. About 47% of our tickets close in under an hour without a truck moving.
We're also talking to a couple of national integrators. What's different about you?
Good. You should be, Houston has real ones, so let's be specific instead of trading slogans. Start with where we came from. Crunchy Tech has been doing this since 2008, and before we ever designed a system we spent years fixing systems other companies built. That history shows up in the racks. Fully enclosed cabinet, every cable labeled at both ends, power separated from audio and data, a layout a stranger can read in year four without guessing. It shows up in the process too. Design and installation live under one roof here, so there's no consultant handing a spec over the fence and no installer pointing back across it when the room disappoints. The recommendation gets shaped by what your business needs, and never by what's sitting in a warehouse. If a particular job genuinely fits another company better, we'll say that too. It costs us a project and buys us a reputation, and we know which one is worth more.
We share a wall with a completely unrelated business. What can you realistically do about sound?
More than most people expect and less than a sound system alone can deliver, so let's separate the two halves honestly. Airborne sound inside your space is ours, and the tools are real: speaker choice and dispersion, mounting height and aim, more sources running easy instead of a few running hot, and zoning at the processor so the loud part of your operation stays in the loud part of your floor plan. Done right, that handles most of what neighbors ever complain about. What a sound system cannot do is stop transmission through shared structure. If bass is riding a common slab or a party wall into the space next door, that's a construction problem, and the fix is isolation work by a different trade or a conversation with your landlord. We'll tell you which problem you have before you spend a dollar, since buying more speakers to fix a structural path is the most expensive mistake available in this market. When the honest answer is an acoustician, you'll hear us say the word.
Where does the equipment rack go and does flood risk really change the design?
Yes and yes, and this is the part of a Houston project we push on hardest. We've opened equipment closets in this city where the only cooling was whatever the building's return air happened to wander past, and by August the chassis inside were too hot to rest a hand on. Heat rarely kills a component on the spot. It shortens its life quietly, and the bill shows up as a string of unrelated failures three years later, tens of thousands of dollars that a $400-a-year cooling decision would have prevented. So the rack gets a room with dedicated cooling holding 75 degrees, power that isn't shared with kitchen equipment, and clear access front and back for service. Flood exposure adds one more line: elevation. If the only available space sits below the flood line for that address, we'll say plainly that the room and its electrical have to change before any AV goes in, and that work belongs to your electrician and your general contractor, not to us. A rack we can't cool, reach, and keep dry will cost you more than it ever saved.
Our locations run from inside the Loop out to Sugar Land and The Woodlands. Does that change anything?
Two practical things change, and the design isn't one of them. First, jurisdiction. Sugar Land, The Woodlands, Katy, Pearland, and the unincorporated county pockets each review their own projects, and an address can sit inside city limits for one purpose and outside for another. What actually triggers review is consistent everywhere: hanging a heavy display, pulling dedicated power to a rack, and working above a finished ceiling. We coordinate those three with your licensed electrician, structural engineer, general contractor, and building management, and we don't perform electrical work, make structural determinations, or rule on code compliance ourselves. Second, distance. Houston is big enough that windshield time is a real line in your support budget, so we build for remote diagnosis from day one and we keep the control layer and the training identical across your sites. A manager who moves from the Loop to The Woodlands already knows the system when she walks in. That's not a nice-to-have. Across a portfolio it's the difference between support that scales and support that bills.

Design-Build AV Philosophy: How it Separates the Top 3% From the Rest of the Industry
We don’t sell you what we have. We design what you need. That line is the operating principle I’ve built Crunchy Tech around for the last 20 years. And it’s the single sentence that separates us - and the small handful of firms like us - from the other 97% of the commercial AV industry.

Send us the address, where the project sits in its schedule, and what's leasing the units around you. If drawings exist, we'll read them. The consult covers what each space has to do for the business, includes a walk to check the structure, the neighbors, and the flood map, and what comes back is an engineered scope you can actually build from.
- We ask what's on the other side of every wall before we pick a speaker.
- Rack location, cooling, elevation, and power decided at the drawing stage.
- Permanent commercial systems only. We started in support and never left it.
- Design and installation under one roof, so the accountability has nowhere to hide.
